PURPOSE
The harmonic balancer seal is designed to seal the harmonic balancer. This seal prevents oil going past the harmonic balancer. The seal is designed to last around 100,000Kms although in some vehicles it only lasts around 60,000Kms.
THINGS TO LOOK FOR
When there is an oil leak around the harmonic balancer it is usually the harmonic balancer seal.
IS IT EXPENSIVE TO REPAIR?
Replacing the harmonic balancer seal is inexpensive, costing around $15.00 and the labour costing $60.00. But the problem is that most seals require another harmonic balancer as some seals wear a groove in the harmonic balancer causing this leak.
TEMPORARY REPAIR AND LONG TERM REPLACEMENT
Replacing a harmonic balancer seal is best done by replacing with a harmonic balancer. Harmonic balancers and seals are harmonious so they are best replaced at the same time.
