AIR CLEANER ELEMENT
An air cleaner element is designed to clean or filter the air before it enters the carburettor. This way it prevents any damage to the combustion chamber, the air cleaner element should be checked and cleaned every 10,000Kms.
THINGS TO LOOK FOR
The obvious is a dirty air cleaner element. Another filter inside the air cleaner assembly is a positive crank case ventilation valve filter pad that should also be checked. If clogged it may be soaked in kerosene or replaced if necessary. Another common problem is oil around the base of the air cleaner assembly. This is an indication of blowby, which means that the oil rings are either clogged or worn. Got to oil rings to find out more about this problem.
IS IT EXPENSIVE TO REPAIR?
A good air cleaner is around $18.00. There are many types on the market but it is always best to go for a well known brand such as RYCO.
